Cease & Desist -- Dear Yoko (page 4)

From Nov 29, 1996 to Mar 28, 1997, visitors to Bagism had the opportunity to write a letter to Yoko Ono asking that she reconsider the decision by her laywers to shut down my former John Lennon site. The first three pages of these letters were mailed to Yoko Ono but I never received a reply.

Comments: Dear Yoko, I would like to offer you my sympathies on the passing of your dear husband 16 years ago. I was not alive when John played the best of his music, and was not old enough to remember hearing the rest. I only know that I love the Beatles and I love John. His music with the Beatles, with you, and solo are great pieces of history. I only wish you would take a look at this site and decide for yourself. I know many people who love John Lennon and his music. Without pages like these on the Internet, we have no way of finding out the truth and information about John that we would like to. Please consider this and please think of changing your mind. Cheryl Buchanan

Comments: How are you? I am a high school student and, although I did not have the opportunity to live while he did, to me, John Lennon represents not only an honest, brilliant musical talent, but a voice of peace and sanity in the world. Together with you, John had so much to teach us. By keeping information, like this site, available to my generation, he, and his message, will live on. Thank you.

Comments: Call off the lawyers and finally imagine no possessions! Surely you have more than enough money for ten thousand life times to have to worry about financial repurcussions from a page like this! Come on! Ideas are powerful things, and they have the potential to do a lot of good, effect a lot of change, etc. This is even more true if ideas, images, etc. are allowed to be exchanged freely. Let this site and others like exist. Encourage them, in fact. Let these mind guerillas do their ritual dances in the sun. Also, contribute your own page to this process. But, for crying out loud, call off the fucking lawyers. They have no business in what could be a series of noble enterprises.

I do think many people would like this! after all he was and i belive still is the greatest song writer of all time.

Comments: Dear Yoko, How are you? I truely hope you,Sean, and Julian are doing fine. I know you are a very busy woman, so I will get to the point. I am a big fan of John, to say the least. I would give anything to have met him, just once. But, unfortuntely I was born exactly 2 months after he was shot. I, along with so many others will never get the chance to meet one of the greatest men, I believe, to ever walk the earth. Having a Jonh Lennon web page to go to to chat with other fans is so inportant to me. Please let Sam keep his page to help keep John's memory alive as it always should be. Thank you...peace&love!

Comments: Dear Yoko, Hi! It's an honor to be able to write to you. I am only 24 and recently, John's music hit me. I think John was the best ever!!! John is so unique and I sympathized for on your hardship with John!!! Your pain and John's are felt from the songs I hear from John. Madamme Yoko, I am still in the process of learning more about John! This web site helped with many interesting information. Please reconsidered you legal decision and help spread John's spirit. Madamme Yoko, however, I do not know the whole story so I will deeply honor your decision whichever it may be. Thank you for reading my message as I know you probably flooded with messages. Comments: Dear Ms.Ono-Lennon, I really loved John Lennon and miss him dearly. Not a day goes buy when I wish I could somehow undo the tragic event of Dec. 8, 1980. The only confort I have is visiting internet sites that remember him. There I can pay tribute to him and share with other fans what truly great contributions John made to this world. His ideas of peace, music, art and his wit. I can almost forget what happened to him and remember his living spirit. Please keep Sam's web site alive, it helps to keep John's memory. Unfortunately thats all we have. Sincerly , Marvin Hymanson

Could you please let Sam keep the stuff he had on his web page on it? It shows just how much John was loved and is still loved and it also helps people that don't know much about John learn about him. I learned a lot about John through that web page. I hope you will consider it. Best wishes to you and your family. Peace, Love and John forever, Mary :)

Comments: Dear Yoko, For one thing, I am surprised that a pro-peace, pro-liberal, and anti-racism page would be shut down with the aid of people who are working for you. Throughout the '60s and '70s, you and John fought and fought hard to promote peace oneness for the whole world. Now skip ahead twenty years and you have today. I time of selfishness, greed, a what's-in-it-for-me attitude and a feeling of conflict among American ethnic groups and other ethnic groups around the world. No who in their right mind would want to not push for something that would help bring peace and oneness to a love and peace-starved world? I ask you, no, beg you, to please allow the John Lennon home page to be reinstated as an internet page. It is an icon of peace, the message that you a

Comments: Dear Yoko, I am writing, like hundreds of other John & Yoko fans, to ask you to please allow us to have access to our chat room. Whenever I visited the room I always found the participants to be debating and discussing important aspects of your and John's message to the world, and building on it with their own messages of world peace and love. It is my guess that this was your and John's goal in the first place -- getting people from around the world together to actively consider and promote peace. The web chat was the perfect forum to do just that. Where else could an ongoing world dialogue take place? In this violent and angry world, often the voices of peace activists get drowned out. The web chat was a place where we could meet and gather strength from each other, and reaffirm that we are not alone. This is how we keep the cause alive. I hope you can see how important this site is to us. It's not Strawberry Field in Central Park, but it's the next best thing. Please reconsider, and allow us our meeting place. Thank you.

Comments: Dear Yoko, The Memory of your husband lives on in the hearts of many of his followers - I, myself was not alive at the time of his tragic death, but ever since I was "introduced" to his music - I've become an addicted fan. Please, Let the legacy of his music live on and give so many other youngsters (like my self) the chance to adore him, too - Don't let the Great John Lennon fade away, let him rise up "Free as a Bird". Hoping for the best - Catherine.

Andrew Bradley (anbradle@indiana.edu) from Bloomington, Indiana, U.S.A.
Comments: Dear Yoko, Hello, my name is Andrew, and I am in my first year at Indiana University. Tonight I logged on to the computer and clicked the link that has brought me so much information about John's life and works, enlightenment about his ideas and ideals, and fellowship with others who seem to be in my tree. But tonight, all that I found was a stark grey page telling me that it was all gone. My mouth fell open and my heart sank. It took me a few moments to believe that this great travesty was true. Only a few moments ago, I had read John's words that "Music is everybody's possesion. It's only publishers who think that people own it." Although Mr. Choukri's site didn't contain John's music itself, it captured much of the spirit and message of love that filled his music. This was not to Mr. Choukri's financial profit, and in fact had inspired me in the past months to purchase "Plastic Ono Band," "Walls and Bridges," "Shaved Fish" and "Double Fantasy." It is too bad that the images that represent the larger work of John have now been deemed a sole possession and not a public joy. I implore you to please give Mr. Choukri and others like him to spread John's work through the medium of the Internet. The benefits include, and even transcend, the estate, and more importantly, the memory of John Lennon. Sincerely and with Love, Andrew G. Bradley

Comments: Dear Yoko, I am a grade 9 student in Ontario. I study art and I love to write poetry. My goal in life is to play music like John. He is my inspiration. He taught us all to imagine a better world. I love John Lennon's music both on his own and with the Beatles. Sam Choukri's page was undoubtably the best on the internet. Jackie Morfey (jmorfey@prairienet.org) from Savoy, IL
Comments: Hi, I just found Sam's site, and was quite upset to see that lawyers had intimidated the University of Missouri into "dismantling" this website. The part that upsets me is that it was a tribute to the life of John Lennon, your late husband. He was a man who, though his music and ideas, spoke volumes for not only his, but several generations. It was not an effort to make a quick buck, but an act of respect. If anyone wanted to make a quick buck, it was your legal counsel, who has, I am sure, charged you for their services. Hey, I guess everyone needs to make a living somehow, huh? I truly feel that if he were alive today, that he would not mind a website covering his career. His music was meant to be shared, right? Thanks for your time.

Comments: Dear Yoko, I hate to threaten you or sound rude, but I honestly think that your lawyers made a bad decision on shutting down the site that was dedicated to your husband. All that Sam wanted to do was to share the message that John was trying so hard to share and Sam tried to revive it and keep it living. Please, let your husband's work live on and prosper as more years pass.

Comments: Dear Ms. Lennon: I'm not exactly sure how to word this, but I'll give it my best shot. Okay, I think that John Lennon was a great artist (music and otherwise) and that even though he is not with us anymore, his memory should be kept alive. I know, I know, this is just one site. But one isn't such a small number, you know. No offense, but can't you see how many people are objecting to the closing down of the site that was formerly here? I was shocked when I put a link to the site on my webpage, and clicked on it recently to find an ominous message about copyright infringement and other things of the like. It's not fair to take the site of the web. Please consider the words above. Thank you.

It's not fair to the fans that this wonderful tribute to a wonderful person was snatched from us unexpectedly. In fact, it kinda sucks!!!!! I think I speak with the vast majority of the world population when I say: GIVE US BACK *OUR* PAGE!!!!! It might only have been created by one person. Comments: Dear yoko, I don't know if you'll actually get this letter, but if you do, consider the following: I love John Lennon. I am only 14 years old, but I know a lot about your true love. And I also know that the person making this Lennon site is only doing for the best. There is no stealing inlvolved. Remember how you and John joined each other for peace on earth, no wars. So why be afraid that someone is researching him for money or some other crappy cause?! I don't blame you for listening to your lawyer, but trust me. All we want is the best to keep the BEATLES, the purest people of all time, alive. all my faith, Sunflower

Comments: Dear Yoko: As the 16th anniversary of the death of John has just passed I spent the day remembering both John and you and Sean and Julian and what a loss the passing of John was for an entire world. Listening to his music and watching the film 'Imagine' took me back to a wonderful time when we were all more naive and innocent. I saw John perform once in 1966 and that day remains one of the most significant moments in my life. Yoko, if you can do anything with regards to re-opening Sam's web page concerning John's life, I would encourage you to do so. I looked forward to visiting Sam's page often and I would love to see it up and running again. Merry Christmas, Yoko. Sincerely, Robert Teskey

Comments: Dear Mrs. Ono, I have written you a letter about yourself and how much I admire your late husband, John Lennon. I think that Sam's page helped keep John's spirt alive. It was full of great facts about his life as a Beatle and as a solo artist. I think that you should let Sam have his Lennon page back. I was really upset to hear that he had to shut it down. I am looking forward to his new page. Yours truly, Bryan Kenny

Comments: Dear Yoko, John was killed when I was ten years old. Only now, at the age of twenty six, am I able to fully understand the loss. And I miss him. I wonder If he knows how much his music and ideas shaped the way people look at their own lives. You once said that "IMAGINE was Johns dream for the world." I thought that I was the only one who still believed that until I read what many people wrote about him on the website. I was wrong. I hope you will rethink your decision and let us continue to learn more about John and his life via the internet. Thank you.

Comments: Hullo! Yoko, this is dumb. What harm is it going to do to have ONE little web site up about John? Did you ever see the site while it was up? It was just WICKED! It looked soo great, and it truely honoured John's memory.... I am sure that you are not in any bad finacial state, so if it is not about the money than what is it??? Now if you have a really good reason, maybe, some of us can understand your actions, so please tell me what your reasons are... I know that you are a good woman and that you want you husbands memory to be honoured, so please let Sam keep the site... John was a GREAT man and his memory deserves to be honoured as best as it can be, and Sam can do that through his website, if only you would let him... Well if you ever do get to read this comment, please consider giveing Sam permision for his website.... Well I will go now..... A BIG fan of both you and your husband, Eryka Floren

Comments: Ms. Ono, We believe that John was a great man, and his creativity and talent were an inspiration to the world. Don't let those lawyers convince you otherwise. That page was a wonderful tribute to him. Even if you weren't so rich, how could a simple web page like that threaten your income? It was not made to receive a profit. Comments: Dear Ms. Ono, The shut down of The John Lennon Page has really saddened me. Like many others, I have been a big fan of your beloved husband who died much too young. I have come to appreciate what it is he stood for, which is many positive things. All his music has a timeless aura to it, and will continue to live on forever. Please do something about reconstructing this page--we are lost without it! P.S. I named my cat after him. I hope you don't mind. I am sixteen years old.

Comments: Dear Ms Ono Lennon As one of the first fans of your late great husband I would like to say that this page serves a good purpose in that its a connection with other people all over the world . I cant begin to tell you how important THE BEATLES music was. One reason for that is because you have no doubt heard it all. However I respect your right to protect your interest both public and private.Actually all Iam saying is give the internet a chance. In closing I wish you PEACE(SHALOM)

Comments: Dear Yoko- You have a chose not to read any of this comments, but you should at least take a minute to listen to John's true fans. I have looked at other sites for John, but this was the best on the Web. It was a place where fans could come together and talk about the life of John. I'm 14 and recently started to listen to John's music. His music could touch you in a way no one's elses could, and the site added a new demension to his works. Please do not take the site down. Money isn't a real issue, is it? You and John always wanted a way for "total communication" to take place, and this was one of those ways to talk about peace and love. Wouldn't John have wanted it like that? I would like to end by sending my condolences to you for the passing of the 16th anniversary of John's death. He may not be physical alive but he will always be alive in our hearts and through his honest voice in his music.

Steve Hampton (HAMPTON72@aol.com) from Phoenix, AZ USA
Comments: Dear Ms. Ono, I was surprised to see that a site dedicated to the memory of your late husband, John Lennon, was shut down because of possible "copyright infringements" I have not been Online very long, and honestly, I was unaware that anything like this was going on. Your husband gave so much to the World and it concerns me when I hear that a person, trying to give something back, is being forced to stop. I was not alive when the Beatles were still a band and I really had never heard your husband's name until his tragic death in 1980. From the reactions of the people I knew, it was apparant that the World had suffered a tremendous loss. I was immediately intrigued with this "John Lennon", a man who dedicated his life to peace and love and the freedom of speech. Since that time, I have become a fan of his music and his philosophy. I have looked into many facets of his life and have always tried to find more information. That is why I grow concerned when I see that a site devoted to keeping John's memory alive has been shut down. He was one of the greatest men that the world has ever known. And he wasn't great because of his music...he was great because of his message. I have always believed that he used his music to drive his message directly into one's soul. My message to you is to PLEASE allow the site dedicated to John Lennon's memory to be reopened. This is our way of saying, "Thank You." Let us give something back to the man who gave so much to so many. Thank you! Steve Hampton Phoenix, AZ

Comments: Dear Yoko Sam's John Lennon webpage was our home. It was the place we met and talked in peace and love. Through the months we became a family. We not only talked about John and his work but we talked about out lives. We have made friends that we will never lose. On the weekend of December 8 we (who met on the chat) took a trip to Strawberry Fields to honor John. Now without Sam's page we are homeless. I beg of you please give us back Sam's page. It was not used to exploit John in any way. It was a nonprofit page. We all love it dearly as you can see from our letters. Please have a heart and return it to us Thank you Melissa (Lucy)

I've shared it with many of my friends, and now I'm not the only thirteen year old that considers herself a Lennon fan. He was especially helpful in providing pictures of Strawberry Fields, seeing that I couldn't be in New York myself, I was at least looking forward to looking at the pictures on the eighth and wishing I could be there, laying a rose in the name of Lennon. He does no harm, Mr.Chourki is only trying to spread the word of Lennon. What's wrong with that? I beg you, Mrs.Lennon, since John can't be here to spread the word himself, why hide the wonderful things he's done? Fondly, Susan Elliott

Comments: Dear, Ms. Lennon I am a high school student, in nebraska. I was only alive for about seven months of your husbands, extrodinary, but short life. John means a lot to many people, John's music, art, and belives brought magic and hope into many people's lives(including mine) there are many John Lennon sites on the net, but Sam's did it tastefully to the memory of John Lennon. Please let Sam resore his page, so he can teach young fans such as myself learn more about john. I only have so much of John's art and music, at least Sam's page gave me an outlet to see your husband's magic. Chris Headley (the Head)

Comments: Dear Ms. Lennon, In 1965 I was a 10 Year old boy with no real intrest in music, I'm sure I was not alone in this. I heard a song, a voice, and devoloped an intrest in a group of guys called Beatles. I had no idea the impact the music would have on me, and the World. I grieve much, that such a talented artist was taken before his time. I believe John had much to say. I believe many people truly believed that "all you need is love" or "give peace a chance". IMAGINE... what a concept. We the public, fans and others who have a serious intrest in what John was about are limited to what we are allowed to have, or thrown. Please reconcider allowing John's memory to live on a vision of what this wonferful man of peace was about. We the fans will never know John as you have. We respect your right to your decision. As fans, we may only ask to be allowed to know the man better. It's a wonderful feeling to put on a Beatles movie, or a song of Johns and have my GRAND CHILDREN ask.. Is that John Lennon? Imagine.... Respectfully Submitted.

Comments: Dear Yoko, PLEASE READ THIS LETTER!!! I am a big fan of John, and I really loved the old web site! But I can say that I understand why your lawers had to take it down. You have the responsibility of protecting John's memory. I cannont imagine what it would be like if everyone who wanted to use his likeness for any reason could. He would get terribly exploited. But, please concider this: This web site is for people to enjoy his work and to contact other John Lennon fans. It truely keeps his memory alive. Please take this to heart and work with Mr.Choukri in restoring the site.Thank You!Pease&Love

Comments: Yoko, Please consider the value offered by this web site as a tribute to John, it falls under the same public domain as the Strawberry Fields Tribute in Central Park. One thing John would not have tolerated would have been the manipulation of legal minds, he was one as you know, who believed in freedom as a concept, and his expressions as they were on the web site as either graphics, sounds, lyrics and so on, offered much to us who loved John as a great musician and idealist. Please reconsider any legal action against our freedom, and allow us to enjoy what we have left as memories of him. "It's easy if you try"

Comments: Dear Yoko, I would like to ask you to please reconsider the decision to have John's artwork, and his puplic thoughts removed from the Internet. It is so sad that a media such as the Internet, cannot be used as a medium to let his memory and perhaps in some ways he himself to live on. Both of you shared a dream, and a commitment to remove international borders, and to make all humans as one. This medium does just that. You know as well as I that John was very special, (as are all people), and I think that the borderless timeless Internet, is a place where both of your thoughts and ideas can, as John once wrote, shine on and on. Its tragic that legal ramifications are one by one snuffing out the bright collective concience of this incredible resource. Please reconsider, ......and War is Over (Cause we and you wanted it) Happy Christmas to you and Sean. May the Goddess ever bless you both with her love and her light. Cyndi Klenk

Comments: Hello Yoko and good day, good evening or whatever. I doubt you'll ever get a chance to read this but if you do maybe you could possiablly reconsider shutting down the John Lennon page. I was to be a first time visitor to this site. But, instead I found out about the site being closed down. I think perhaps you should reconsider your decision in the spirit of Freedom. That's it. thanks. Sean Quigley.

Comments: I went to this site looking for basic lyrics and chords for John Lennon's songs. I want to play them for family and friends over the hollidays. I am sure I could figure them out myself but it would be nice to see all his work in one place. I really love the message in his music and want to pass it on to people who would hear me play. I don't think you are in any danger of anyone stealing from you by making his work accessable to the masses. I think there are millions who would love to imitate John Lennon with there guitar in front of a mirror. Can you deny them access to the basic lyrics and chords with which to imagine?

Comments: Oh Yoko... Without the Music and Art of John Lennon and Yoko Ono life would be terribly flat. Without the Music and Art of John Lennon and Yoko Ono the Internet would be terribly flat. I don't know if the disappearance of Sam's page had anything to do with you directly or indirectly, but being the extremely influential woman you are, please learn what you can about the situation and help Sam bring John back to all of his fans. Sam's page was a welcome surprise to me. It presented images of John which were real and not sanitized for MTV. If the page were to disappear it would be a great loss to a world of people who may not know the truth about the message of John and Yoko. We love You, John and the Beatles forever.

Comments: Dear Mrs. Ono, I feel that Sam should be able to share what John Lennon created on the internet without fear of reprisal from you lawyers. As far as I can tell in his life John Lennon stood for many issues(Peace, love ect..)but one of the most important was freedom(of the individual). He made millions of people happy and aware at the same time(which is a special and rare gift that only one or two people in a generation have). If people can continue to spread your late husbands message on the internet why make them stop? I realize that they are trademarked and that they make money and the lot but isn't the message more important than all that? Please consider and Merry Christmas and Godspeed! James Nason

Comments: Dear Yoko, I am a high school student and even though John died a couple of years before I was even born, his thoughts and ideas effect my every day life along with many other people in my school. Please tell the lawyers representing John's estate to change their mind about Sam Chourki's John Lennon Web Page. It is really an excellent page and the removal of it has upset many John Lennon fans, including me, around the world. I hope you will consider this and give permission for the page to come back online. Peace and Happy Xmas to you and Sean!

Comments: Dear Yoko, I am a big fan of John Lennon's ever since I got into the Beatles and now my knowlege of him as a solo artist has risen, I really would like to inform you of what John Lennon means to all of his fans, my favorite songs of all time are Across the Universe and Tommorow Never Knows. John Lennon has inspired me to learn to play guitar, even though I am not very good, it is fun and John open the doors to me. I really wish I could have experienced the Beatles and 70's in a first hand experience instead of just reading about it (I'm 15). I really hope that you will not try to stop copyrighted materials from floating around the internet. Merry X-Mas and a happy new year. Adam Anklewicz http://www.interlog.com/~ankle

His music and words are a wonderful inspiration to everyone. His memory will be remembered always, and the impact that he had on the world will never be forgotten. I think that pages on the internet about John should be kept, in order to help keep his memory alive, and share his love and grace with a new generation. Comments: Dear Yoko, Well, let's see...i just saw this as i was browsing and it seemed to be of such interest to me that i decided to read every one of these letters...it took awhile but i finally finished, my eyes burning from staring at the monitor for 20 minutes...but i did it, i read each and everyone and ya know what, it was really cool...people are so very devoted to John Lennon, The Beatles, and you yourself Yoko...if i were you, i'd feel honored! If someone wanted to make a webpage and devote it to me or my husband, I'd be delighted...but of course no one will do any such thing, i have done nothing notable enough to deserve such an honor in all of my 16 and a half years on this earth...but John DID do something, something worth every ounce of credit that anyone is willing to give him...and i'd say after reading these letters, there are many who wish to give your husband credit...well, now i'm just rambling...so anyway, if I were you, I'd feel pretty peachy knowing that all these people are so dedicated to the memory and works of your husband... Thanx, Lea

Comments: I am just a kid from New Jersey.I face many injustices in school. Iam a wheelchair kid who doesn't like to talk.I use the computer all day. I like the idea of communicating more freely, frankly no one cares. Everyone just doesn't care about the future. Ever since the 80's america's youth has grown into itself. They don't care if someone gets beat up, frankly they like it. We almost saw some consciousness brought about in the early 90's. Now it just faded away. If you say the environment every one says, oh just a bunch of boring stuff. You say world peace they say it didn't work. And worst of all we say prejudice, and they will turn around and say racial slurrs. We should have a new consciousness movement. And this site kind of did help counteract our youth's ignorance. There was almost a consciousness movement.

Comments: John Lennon has a legacy that should be carried on, and that was what this web site was trying to do. Some lawyers who probably don't give a flying Lucy what Lennon was like decided to take away this web site. Well, in order to carry on Lennon's legacy, we need permission to use some stuff that the lawyers said they couldn't. I know what I'm talking about--I I've read over 20 books on the Beatles, and have seven of their albums, and tons of memorobilia. I know more facts about Lennon and the Beatles than just about everyone. I know the story behind Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, (one of my favorites) and I Am The Walrus (another great one). Please help all the Beatles and John Lennon fans and listen to our pleas. Sincerely, Sarah H. Van Eck I
