Comments: All I can say is, life is not fair. And it's not fair that I never got to live while this amazing being was alive. However, perhaps his magic was finished doing what it set out to do. I really don't know. All I can do is think. But I have dedicated this weekend to listening to his music, watching the Beatles Anthology tapes (which I was proud to recieve as a Chanuka gift), and just thinking about him. We miss you, John!

Comments: Today, when I woke up, I opened a newspaper in order to see how the various channels indicate the 16th anniversarry of John Lennon's death. There is a special show with religious artist, comedies, and a series about oasis. Nothing about John Lennon. How could they forgot the death of the best musician in the world?

Comments: many people don't realize just what an impact the beatles had on the world in general, not just when it came to music. john's murder set the tone of the 80s as a time of cynical greed. but when i see all these people who weren't even born when he died, inspired by his music and taking to heart his message of peace, i have hope. keep on rockin' and don't ever give up.

Comments: As is to be expected I find myself in a different state of mind each year when this day comes. In years past I often have been reminded primarily of the pain of his loss. This year I feel particularly good and a little less obsessive about my Lennonism. What I am thinking about most this year is the wonderful contribution John has made to the colors of my life. I do continue to miss him terribly but I can say this year that I'm mainly grateful that he graced the earth and especially that we did it at the same time. Bless you John.

Comments: I appreciate Mela A's comments (12/8) regarding how many younger fans are out there listening to the music and finding its meaning is relevant to their lives. John is somewhere Watching the Wheels go 'round on this planet that needs his message of hope more than ever. With problems like overpopulation, hate, and destruction of our environment, we have to REMEMBER that those of us with REAL LOVE can help spread the WORD. It may not be all you need, but it's certainly a place to start. Hope to see lots of you at the NJ Meadowlands for Beatlefest '97 March 21-23.

Comments: -John Lennon rest in peace- I was just two years old, the day exactly 16 years ago, then the 20th century's greatest composer and music creator was killed. Dispite my youngth at that day I still remember the crying of my parents, and now, afterwards I cry too. The magnificient 'Imagine' is the best song ever written, and I'm sure that noone ever is going to write a better song. The Dec. 8th will in all years of my future live be a day to honor John Lennon, the greatest of the all! -John Lennon rest in peace-

Comments: Well Johnny it was 16 yrs ago today. I wasn't even born yet when you died yet your music has touched me in such a way that no other music can compare. I'm sitting here listening to Jealous Guy and thinking about you. Why did you have to go John? My generation and the future generations will never be able to experiance you as a living person. That saddens me. My candles are buring for you John. Your light will shine on forever, like the moon, the stars, and the sun. I see you watching everyone, hoping for peace and love. My father kept newspaper arcticles from that horrible day. I don't think anyone was expecting to see the terrible news that lay on the cover. As I read these arcticles, I think of the shock it must've brought to the people that had grown up with your music and to the ones that were just getting to like you. As I read I start to cry. It's not fair that I will never get to see you live or anywhere else. Then I think of the man that took your light away from you. I start to get very very angry Johnny. It's really hard to think of peace when this man will be getting out in 2001. Johnny why did you have to go? We miss you very much. We all love you John. REMEMBER LENNON! Love Is All You Need, Cassie(Mimi)

Comments: Well Johnny...it was 16 yrs. ago today. It's very difficult to go on without you around to inspire us all. I'm listening to How Do You Sleep and I have a small smile on my face. Listening to any song of yours is like being in heaven. Why did you go Johnny?? I wasn't alive to see you step off the airplane with the Beatles for the first time in America. I wasn't alive when the Beatles broke up, I wasn't alive when you died, but your music has touched me in such a way that no other music can compare. I have many candles burning. Your light will never burn out. You'll always shine on...like the moon, the stars, and the sun. My father saved newspaper clippings from that horrible day. I can only imagine the shock on people's faces as they read the cover. As I read the articles, I think of the wonderful career you had and loving family you had...either it be by Cynthia and Julian or Yoko and Sean. This saddens me deeply. A man that belives in peace SO much...to be killed by something he was against...is insane. As was MDC. I cry when I read those articles and I think of how unfair it is for my generation and the future generations to not be able to experiance your life. As I listen, sing along, laugh with, and enjoy your music, your memory of your life will never leave me or anyone else. We miss you Johnny and we love you. REMEMBER LENNON!! Love Is All You Need, Mimi

Comments: I'd like to say that I'm sad Mr. Lennon is dead, but in my heart of hearts, I can't. I know that while he may no longer be with us, he is somewhere else; a part of something much bigger than just John Lennon. I think that to be sad would really be selfish on my part as well as on the parts of others. We are sad because he's no longer with us, but the beauty of it is, he IS with us. He will always be in our hearts. Our lives are such a short and almost meaningless phase in an enormous plan and I think he knew this. Wherever you are John Lennon, we love you. You touched us all and for that I thank you. We all shine on.

Comments: Well, here we are in the sixteenth year... Life can be long--and I have been so strong... The courage that you showed rubbed off well... Though, you'd be hard-pressed to find it... Yet, the tide turns ever--so--slightly... Peace still ebbs, and you blended it... Your ghost carries on without you... Your world remembers the happy times... The halcyon days skipped a few beats... Nutopia will be remembered for what it will be... You can take the sky, whilst I strum the chords... Boogie in heaven Mr. Johnny with the upturned lip...

Comments: I'm sitting here at my computer listening to Shaved Fish ("Mother") with tears just running down my face...although I was just 78 days old when John Lennon was shot, he means so much to me that I can feel his presence around me on this day, the 16th anniversary of his death. I often can't find others who understand how much JWL means to me because I am so young, so it's wonderful to read these comments from more of his fans! Often, my friends don't really know what to say - they don't understand why I get so upset every year on December 8th (and October 9th). I've read, listened to, and watched everything I can get my hands on about John. His death was senseless, and I hate everything and anything that has to do with guns, violence, war, etc. Although I know my black wardrobe and candles can't bring John back, I take comfort in knowing his message of peace and love will live in my (and many others') hearts always. Shine on, John, I love you and always will. Imagine there's no heaven It's easy if you try No hell below us Above us only sky Imagine all the people, living for today... You all know the rest.

Comments: ...in my life: i've loved john; felt sick; and cried for him; wondered what he'd be doing, and where; what he is doing, and where; why; what it'd be like to go walking/camping/daydreaming with him. i can't touch a rickenbacker, listen, think, without sharing and filtering through him. our honest hero ...more than once i've wondered, more than once i've cried. you're alive within us, john. you never left our side.

Comments: John Lennon was more than human. I was only four years old when he was killed, but for the past 10 years I've really gotten into John Lennon, especially with the three anthologies. Without John Lennon, there would be no Beatles, no new music and no peace. John Lennon lives in the hearts of all his fans, and we live in his until the ened of time. Peace and love, John.

Comments: As we enter a new era, defined by new characteristics, we must remember the timeless messages that Lennon brought to life in his lyrics. We must not be deterred by the negativism that has become the norm. Too many people have succumbed to the fact that we can no longer improve upon our current situation. We've lost--only if we stop imagining. I call out to all my brothers and sisters across the world on this special day that we must continue to imagine a better world. Peace.

Comments: THe 8th of December! "The Day the music died" Like commented here, what a waste. What could have been done in 16 years. And now, we're filled only with what if's and why's. ALthough not everyone appreciated you, all felt the loss when you were no longer with us. Someone to laugh with or at, someone to love or hate, someone to respect or disrespect, someone to understand or to merely wonder at. The enigma of your existence haunts the entire human race even today and all we can do is whisper "thanks"...

John, we love you!!!!

Comments: Fear!Fear! Like none other Cold as life in a body bag - black Somebody's killed somebody's mother I look away and care not; dare not look back But oh- to know the lifeless faces! Dear Lennon, dear Lincoln, dear King, dear JFK and his dear little brother - I weep remembering their lives of giving to us all, and their happy faces. But what of the others? What of the billions of other black sacs? What of the family of the murdered mother? What of the life-robbed children, starved in shacks? They all had something in them, and sisters and brothers... To an unending life of happiness These birds have flown, but not of free will, for out of this nest of life they've been thrown. Man kills man day by day- who will be next? Don't look away! We must all feel the pain and start thinking today. (--a poem which was condensed from its real form- sorry that everything is squished together, but it's the best I can do.)

Comments: I was 15 and going in my father's car on the way to school when I heard on the radio that John Lennon has been shot. I was in pure shock. I was just beginning to recover when I realized that the anouncer has just said that he was dead! That day, I ran to school only to be met by my best friends who were in tears. The following week has been impregned in my brain forever. John Lennon embodies everything for me: life and death, rock n' roll, love and hate, tragedy and triumph. His music will survive well over this century and beyond because it is a tale of the human race. About imagining no possessions. About living in contradictions and recognizing it. About surviving the scars of an unhappy chilhood. About facing the demons inside. About meeting true love and leaving everything behind to fulfill it. About starting over and giving power to the people. He shall shine on forever. Hold on world, it's gonna be allright... 'cause we all shine on. Daphne

Comments: I remember waking up on that cold december morning in 1980. It was my thirteenth birthday and I was hoping to get John Lennon's Double Fantasy Album. The clock radio had woke me up to a changed world. The man on the radio said that John Lennon had been shot outside the Dakota. I was devastated. I remember waiting outside for the bus yelling at the sky,"why god why." I took my portable radio to school to hear all of the news and beatle music they were playing that day. As I am writing this comment it is 11:30, sixteen years ago this hour a madman took one of my heroes away and destroyed my birthday. Give peace a chance and have a happy Christmas

I had never thought I was a Lennon fan, till the piano cords of imagine floated towards me and I pulled over and listened to it. I thought back through my own lfe and realized that there were alot of my memories tied up in the mans music The first rock n roll song I remember singing with my Mother was I wanna hold you hand. We all miss you John,it should not have been this way. Peace and music. Mic

Comments: John's death meant that a man of peace and a colossal musical talent was taken away from us far too early and that is the tragedy we remember today. But having listened to some of his music today, I think there is also so much be thankful for in the legacy that he left us, including this place on the 'net where people with a similar vision can get together from around the world. Thanks for everything, John, you have meant a lot in my life and I really hope your spirit is out there somewhere in peace.

Comments: It's really good to read other peoples comments about John, no-one around here seems to even know the importance of today. He was an inspiration to all of his generation, and continues to be an inspiration to people like me even though I was only 8 months old when he died. Life certainly is unfair, but his music is still played and he is still remembered by many. We love you John

Comments: John Lennon is one of my greatest heros. Every time I hear one of his amazing songs or hear him speak about peace in the world, I wonder how such a cruel thing can happen to such a peace-loving individual. He was truly a gifted man, and I will always love and respect him.

Comments: Two weekends ago I was in Liverpool, and while I was there I picked up a button that read "Why John Lennon?"...a question many of us have in our hearts I'm sure. When "I'm Down" about his death, I just remember all the beauty he gave the world while he was still here. His music and love live on forever in us-his fans. His beautiful soul sometimes overwhelms me, but I wouldn't change that feeling for the world. I know John's spirit is still here...I can feel it around me. Thank you God for giving this world a beautiful, soulful man for a while to touch hearts and open minds. I will love him forever. Peace and Love...Power to the people.

Comments: It was Monday night. 'The All-Night Show' we did on Channel 47 'live' was on its night off. I was sitting upstairs at the El Mocambo catching Carlene Carter, catching a buzz from the band. Mike Baird, owner of the ElMo came to our table and said: "Lennon's been shot - the crawl at the bottom of the big screen tv downstairs tuned to Monday Night Football said so." I asked him what the hell he was talking about. He repeated himself. I suggested he go back down and double-check. He came back, white. "Lennon's dead!" The word spread quickly, from table to table, through the crowded room. People got up, crying. Carlene and the band looked bewildered as they lost the crowd. Mike and I went to the bar downstairs, grabbed a couple of bottles of Southern Comfort. We got very, very drunk. The next morning I was numb. I simply didn't know what to do with myself. I headed for the tv station - twelve hours early. The whole production team was already there, also twelve hours early, all red-eyed, and stunned. We barely talked - what was there to say? We opened the show that night with John singing "In the middle of the night I call your name..... Oh, Yo-ko." It described exactly how we felt. For Yoko, Sean and ourselves.
