As each year goes by, it is harder and harder to write about John Lennon on this message board. It is not that I have lost touch with John and his music. But there are only so many times that you can tell people how great he was and is - as a man, as a musician, as a human and as a peacenik. I am comforted in the feeling that John Lennon is not dead. Indeed not! He is still very much alive. Why, I'm listening to the Imagine album as I write. This album is never going away. How can it? Thus, even for the hundreds of people who will post today who were born after 1980 - and maybe even those who were born before 1940! - they know how much John Lennon means to them. He means a great deal to me because his music has had an impact on my life since I first put a needle down on the Imagine album in 1987, when I was 11 and didn't know who John Lennon was or is. As technology advances, we will have new ways to listen to John's albums. But no matter how much humanity progresses, we will never have a leader like John Lennon. Can't say what a 62 year old John would have been like but Paul is doing well for an "old man." When Paul did his songs for John and George the crowd swooned where it goes:"I love you." Why? Oh, God, John. I've been sitting here reading comments from people who live all around the planet, and I feel as if we're all united, just as you dreamed...that the world is living as one. However, I know that's not the way most people feel at all, especially not in my country. I can't fathom how people can think that war, hatred, and more terrorism is going to combat terrorism. Jesus, we could really use you right now, John. More people may start questioning if a world without war would be so awful. I can't stop thinking about how you questioned it so outspokenly, with no fear of the government or being called unpatriotic (which, as we all know, is the worst thing in the world). You had a lot more to worry about than many people who do not speak out about something that it is their responsibility to speak out on...yet you did it. No, you weren't the only one, John. Ive spent days thinking of what to write, so here goes the final, and perfected copy, just for you, John: These are hard times, John, but with your sweet voice in my ears, and your teachings in my heart, I know I will percivere in my goal to bring world peace. We are all one in the same, John, and I wish you were here to guide us all. I wish you were here to guide me. I know youre never comming back, John, and it hurts, but I know we will survive. I know that if we all keep you in our ears, eyes, and hearts, then youre dreams can be acheived. I miss you John, and so do the rest of us.
